Australian Alumni Awards - Nomination Process

Who is eligible?
An Indonesian citizen who has studied in Australia for at least 12 months at the primary school, high school, undergraduate and/or post graduate levels, or have completed a course of study in Australia (if the nominations are for the Australian Alumni Award for Excellence in National Security Governance) are eligible. Alumni who received an Australian Alumni Award for a particular category in previous years cannot receive the same award twice. Alumni can, however, receive an Australian Alumni Award for a different category.
Who can nominate for the Alumni Awards?
Any member of the public in Indonesia and Australia can nominate an Australian alumnus for an Australian Alumni Award.
The nominating party must acknowledge consent from the Australian alumna/us they are nominating for the nomination to be valid.
How do I nominate an alumni/us?
Nominations are made online via OzMate at www.ozmate.org. Any person can open the website and click on the button that refers to nominating for the Australian Alumni Awards.
Closing Date for Nominations
Nominations close on 5 March 2010. Applications submitted on this date (up to midnight Jakarta time) will be accepted. Any nominations submitted after this date will not be accepted by the online system and not considered for the awards.
What information must I provide to lodge a valid nomination application?
Nominating parties must provide the following information:
- Brief information about themselves (contact details and current working position);
- Name of another person who supports the nomination (this person cannot be the alumna/us who is nominated);
- The name, position, educational institution graduated from and year, personal contact details of the alumna/us who is nominated;
- A brief CV in Word Document format. The CV must provide information on the alumna/us' recent educational background, work experience and, where relevant, publications;
- A statement against the selection criteria stating why the alumna/us is worthy of the particular award. This statement must be at least 100 words and no more than 500 words and refer specifically to the criteria for that particular award; and
- Additional supporting documents are optional.
Can I nominate someone if they studied in Australia in a field that they are not currently working in professionally?
Yes you can. Alumni who are nominated do not need to be currently working in the area of study which they undertook while in Australia. Individuals will be assessed according to merit and their achievements in relation to award category they are nominated for.
Can an alumna/us be nominated for more than one award?
Yes, an alumna/us can be nominated for more than one award.
Can an alumna/us be awarded more than one award?
No, an alumna/us a may only be awarded one award at the ceremony.
If I am an alumna/us, can I nominate myself?
Yes, an alumnus can nominate themselves for an award. In this case, an alumna/us is still required to provide a person to second their nomination as a requirement of the online nomination form.
Who is on the judging panel?
The Australian Alumni Award scheme is a competitive process and each alumnus will be assessed according to merit.
There are two stages in the selection process. The initial short listing is conducted by a panel of judges from within the Australian Embassy. The short listed candidates are then presented to a panel of selected judges who are Australian alumni. Each panel member is selected based on their expertise in a particular field, their credibility and good character.
