About The Trophy
The distinctive Australian Alumni Award trophy was designed by Australian Alumnus Alvin Tjitrowirjo.
Tjitrowirjo, a recent graduate of Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, designs pieces combining traditional and industrial materials in a fusion of aluminium, stainless steel, wood and rattan. Tjitrowirjo’s work is strongly influenced by retro-futurism and a slight touch of Avant-garde, and his repertoire ranges from industrial designs to interior design to art direction.
The combination of traditional and modern is seen here in the trophy design. The distinctive shape of the trophy depicts an Indonesian figure remaining steady in its Indonesian roots, but wrapping itself to embrace the future.
The trophy was crafted by Bruce Dodds of Designawards Sydney and represents an artistic collaboration between Indonesia and Australia. Adopting Tjitrowirjo’s design, Bruce was able to provide a very modern finish to the trophy by casting it in solid aluminium with a rumble finish.
This trophy is a symbol of the aspirations of the Australian Alumni, to be able to combine the traditional with the modern and with a focus on the future.
