In the year 2008, many movies produced by Indonesians and played at the cinemas. Here are some for your end of year movie review: Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Warriors) The Movie Released end of September, adapted from a best-selling novel authored by Andrea Hirata, directed by Riri Riza and produced by Mira Lesmana, this inspiring movie made 100% at Belitung and what it makes very special is the support of 12 Belitung as the movie cast. The movie is about the struggle of 10 students and an ambitious teacher, Ms Muslimah (Cut Mini Theo), from a poverty-stricken Kampung Gantong in Belitung to pursue their dream. Tarzan ke Kota Released December, starring Sandra Dewi, the hippest-celebrity in town. The plot more or less adapting the original story of TARZAN, where Ratna (Sandra Dewi) being kidnapped and hid in the cave, place where Tarzan (Ajul “Jiung”) stayed. Tarzan then tried to return Ratna back to the city by riding a horse and help her to defeat Mamahi – Master Mata Hitam (Vincent Rompies). MBA (Married By Accident) Released on December, this movie is surprisingly educative to raise awareness among high school teenagers. Starring Nakita Willy - a young celebrity famous from TV Serial “Bulan & Bintang” as Ole, Ikang Fawzi, Sarah Sechan and Marini Zumarnis, are only a number of celebrities who support this movie. The movie plot is very logic yet full of comedy, although it still carries controversy since the movie situated on a school setting. 3 Doa 3 Cinta Released on December, the movie is about 3 stories about Huda (Nicholas Saputra), Rian (Yoga Pratama) and Syahid (Yoga Bagus) as best friend. They tried to fulfil their dream and wishes of their life which they have written them on a secret place. Overall, the movie almost focuses on the love life of Huda and Dona Satelit (Dian Sastrowardoyo), a dangdut singer. Ayat Ayat Cinta Released on February, the movie is adapted from a best-seller novel authored by Habiburrahman El Shirazy, directed by Hanung Bramantyo and starred by several famous young celebrities. This movie creates enormous response by carrying beautiful Islamic romance and a scenic atmosphere of India. The love triangle among Fahri (Fedi Nuril), Rianti Cartwright (Aisha) and Mariah (Carissa Putri) kept the viewers on tears. Any other Indonesian movies that have to be reviewed here? Write here down! |

It's 2010 now, and just to put a bit of a contribution here, I've just watched the short film 'Dara' -which is from 2009, directed by our Oz alumni colleagues, Timo and Kimo. What a fantastic little film. It is very very bloody, so obviously it's not a film to watch with kids. The film is very funny, tragic, and aptly shot. It's beautifully shot -think of Amelie, but with chainsaw, crossbow (yes, she uses a CROSSBOW!), and rolling heads. Plus, the fact that it (and its expanded version 'Rumah Dara') was very hard to screen in Indonesia while so many horror films with as much blood but much less production value and narrative coherence says something about the way our society and government censor films. |
