Benten was established in June 2007 by two of Indonesia’s up and coming young designers Ms Cecilia Yuda and Ms Lisa Daryono. Both young women studied in Australia; Lisa graduated with a Bachelor of Banking and Finance from Monash University in 2003, and Cecilia obtained her Bachelor in Professional Communication from RMIT University in the same year. They returned to Jakarta and fulfilled their passion of setting up their own fashion business- meeting women’s fashion needs with tasteful simple designs that sustain comfort and quality and teaching themselves as they went about design and concepts.
Proudly Indonesian made, Benten’s designs meet an international standard and have become well known through various media channels; including TV, fashion shows, magazines, websites and online networks. Benten is extending it reach overseas to Malaysia and Singapore and currently preparing for wider distribution in Melbourne and Sydney. Cecilia and Lisa have also received wide recognition for their designs and they were nominated last year for the Cleo Magazine Young and Talented Fashion Designer Award 2008.
