Christine has always been passionate about dance as an art form. Educated in international school and overseas universities, she learned traditional Balinese and Scottish dance. She eventually moved on to Ballroom and Latin dances. After obtaining both Bronze and Silver Medal assessments in Latin dance, she felt drawn toward belly dance for its creativity and freedom of expression.
Christine started Bellydancing training in 2001 at the Newtown Middle Eastern Dance Centre (NMEDC) in Sydney and continues to refine her technique through intensive studies with internationally renowned Master Teachers.
In 2006, she set up the organisations Bellydance Jakarta, the first authentic bellydancing center in Indonesia. Christine also trains the Bellydance Jakarta Dancers, a Middle Eastern dance troupe performing at functions and events. In 2007, Christine received the Ahlan wa Sahlan Teacher’s Training certificate from Cairo to become Indonesia’s first certified Middle Eastern dance instructor.
To spread her knowledge of authentic bellydance, Christine has been invited to outstation towns to conduct workshops. In some cultures, bellydance is considered to be a seductive and taboo dance. Christine is working hard to change that image. Teaching Egyptian bellydance, which is elegant and refined, she maintains high standards for herself and her students, while building a cohesive community.
