Indonesians interested in shaping the future of their country are invited to apply for the 2010 Australian Development Scholarships.
The AUD$40 million (Rp 300 billion) scholarships program offers Indonesians the opportunity to study at Masters or Doctorate levels at an Australian University in fields of study important to economic, social and community development in Indonesia.
Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Bill Farmer, said the scholarships give Indonesians the chance to further their education and build important networks in Australia.
“The academic and personal experiences that scholars gain through the scholarships will equip them with skills and knowledge to drive change and influence the development outcomes of Indonesia upon their return,” Mr Farmer said.
“These scholarships aim to strengthen human resources and growth in Indonesia and are a good example of how our two countries are working together to build important people-to-people links.”
The scholarships are targeted study in the areas of economic management, good governance, education, democracy, justice and safety and peace. The fields of study offered are reviewed annually based on the development needs of Indonesia.
At least half of the 300 scholarships are allocated to women and up to thirty per cent are given to people from selected provinces including East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Papua, West Papua and Aceh.
Australia provides up to 300 postgraduate scholarships every year for Indonesians to obtain postgraduate qualifications and also experience the Australian way of life and share Indonesian culture and heritage with Australia.
