The Australian Government has awarded 300 postgraduate scholarships to Indonesians in the 2009 round of the Australian Development Scholarships the Australian Ambassador, Bill Farmer, announced today.

“Scholarships have been an important part of our bilateral program for many years,” said Mr Farmer. “This year 300 Indonesians from across the archipelago have been successful in obtaining postgraduate scholarships to enhance their skills and knowledge through study in Australia.”

“Their experience will be rich and rewarding and equip them to play a significant role in contributing to the development of Indonesia and in promoting common purpose and understanding between our two countries.”

Postgraduate scholarships for Indonesians to study in Australia have been provided by the Australian Government for more than 40 years.

With 300 postgraduate awards granted annually through the Australian Development Scholarships program, it is the largest scholarships program provided by the Australian Government to any country.

Areas of study are determined in partnership by the Australian and Indonesian Governments each year and focus on supporting the economic, social and community development of Indonesia

This year’s awardees will be studying in areas including: economic management and good governance; health, education; democracy and justice; and safety and peace.
